Where We Hold Our Tension and Why

Hunched over a desk all day, commuting in a packed and stressful tube environment, picking up our kids, lifting heavy loads without bending our knees, lack of sleep, exercise injuries and the biggest of all…stress. Do any of these sound familiar?


These are just a few of the most reoccurring problems that my clients experience, and the reasons why they need a massage. All of my clients are wonderfully unique, so I’m not pretending we all have the same bodies and that I’ve ‘seen it all before’. In fact I’m learning from you all, all the time. However, some similarities do crop up very often, especially among those of you with desk jobs, any stress in your lives, and/or young children.

I thought I’d map it out to help us try to make sense of it all. As with all of these areas of tension, I can always help with either massage or reflexology, to break down the tension and restore as much balance as possible. Deep Tissue Massage techniques can be highly effective in unlocking tension from deeper layers of fascia.

I can work with you to look at why you might be carrying this tension, and I can suggest ways in which you can make some small changes for the future, whether this be some self-massage tips you can do at home, suggesting how often you come to me for treatments, or identifying some simple changes you can make to your desk station. As ever though, I will only do this if you ask! You all know I am not a fan of unwanted preaching! Understanding our bodies and why we carry tension where we do is a great first step.
